Ilocos Sur Festival

The Kannawidan Festival

The Ilocos Sur Festival is commonly known as Kannawidan. It is a festival that marks the historic founding commemoration of the province during the Spanish era. It happens every February 2nd. The celebration lasts atleast a week. ''Tawid'' is where Kannawidan Ylocos gets its name. When translated into English, it implies tradition, legacy, or/and heritage. It also commemorates the province's historic founding during the Spanish era.

In 2008, Kannawidan Ylocos was initially introduced during Deogracias Victor Savellano's administration. It was established to encourage respect for and preservation of the regional customs, legacy, and culture. It was also a chance to highlight regional goods, craftsmanship, and art. Additionally, it was developed to support the regional travel and tourism sector.

Traditional games, cultural performances, drone light and dancing fountain shows, fireworks, comedy shows, food festivals, pet exhibits, and competitions are just a few of the events that the Kannawidan Ylocos are known for. In addition, there are street dancing, festival dance competitions, talent shows, displays, athletic events, training sessions, and other enjoyable events.
